TranslationPerfect.com VRI services work on 3G network

We tested video remote interpreting services using Verizon Wireless 3G network. It's only three weeks before the pilot for VRI rolls out and the results of testing the service on 3G networks are in.  Big and very good surprise was quality of sound and video.  If we were able to get 3G coverage from Verizon, the service would run almost as good as on the wired network.  This level of performance opens the doors for mobile users, such as police officers or paramedics, to utilize foreign and American Sign language interpreters anywhere.

hp-2133-mini-note-netbookTranslationPerfect.com VRI was tested on two mobile units.  HP netbook, sold by Verizon Wireless, had a built-in modem, web camera and was very light. Second rig had a very powerful Dell notebook with built-in camera and one of the Verizon's smart phones was used as a modem.  Both units performed exceptionally well.  HP netbook managed to get close to 3.5 hours of VRI services, before it required a recharge.  Notebook got only 2.2 hours.  We think it's mostly due to the smart phone draining the laptop's battery when connected via USB cable.

We will spend the rest of the week testing the bandwidth requirements for VRI and should have basic specs for IT managers around October 12, 2010 on this web site.
