Experts will train interpreters on ethical issues arising in hospital and courtroom interpreting, as well as interpreting for social service providers. Training covers impartiality, privacy, HIPAA and how interpreters should resolve potential conflicts of interest. Seminar will also include technology training for interpreters and translators to comply with privacy requirements.

Gaby Flores

Ms. Gabriela ”Gaby” Flores has over ten years experience working in the field of Human Services, specifically with refugee and immigrant populations.  Gaby currently acts as the Director of Interpreter Services for Truman Medical Centers and is also Chair of the TMC Diversity Council. She has worked in the arena of interpreter training and development for the last six years and is a certified instructor of “Bridging the Gap” Interpreter Training program (from Cross Cultural Healthcare Program).  She is currently Adjunct faculty at Johnson County Community College for the Healthcare Interpreting Program for Spanish Interpreters.  In addition, she has been active in educating health care providers on their legal obligations to provide language services to Limited English patients through a variety of community forums. Gaby holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, a Master’s in Business Management, and is currently a student in the American Hospital Association/ Health Research and Education Trust’s - Cultural Competency Leadership Fellowship (graduation July 2007).

Linda Wright, RN, MPA

Linda Wright is Director of the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging where she oversees community-based programs and services that support older adults and their family caregivers.

Linda’s career includes working in home health, hospital and community care systems with a special focus on geriatrics, caregiver issues and Alzheimer’s disease.  She formerly worked at the Center on Aging, University of Kansas Medical Center where she participated in grant-funded geriatric research, published in peer reviewed journals and served as a member of the Center’s geriatric diagnostic team.  Linda was a founding member of the Heartland Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and former Vice-Chair of the National Alzheimer’s Association. Linda has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and has taught multiple continuing education courses for the University of Kansas.

Linda is educated in nursing with geriatric specialty.  She holds a degree in health care administration and a master’s degree in public administration (MPA).

Mira Mdivani

Mira Mdivani practices immigration in Overland Park, Kansas. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

In 2005, Mira Mdivani was named BEST OF THE BAR - BUSINESS IMMIGRATION LAW, by the Kansas City Business Journal, for the second year in a row. Her pro-bono work on behalf of immigrant survivors of domestic violence was recognized by The Kansas Bar Association's PRO BONO Certificate of Appreciation Award. The Mdivani Law Firm received the FIRM OF THE YEAR award from the Association of Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City.

Mira’s areas of expertise include: Business Immigration, specifically, employer immigration law compliance systems, management and HR training on immigration issues, I 9 and contractor certification audits, L 1 temporary work visas for executives and managers, H 1B visas for professionals, H 2Bs for essential workers, employment based permanent residency, and immigration related issues raised in the context of corporate changes; and Family Immigration, including advice for families with immigrant members on issues of permanent residency and naturalization.

Mira frequently writes and presents on immigration law. She has presented on business immigration law issues by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association for Annual Corporate Counsel Institute, Missouri Bar Association, Kansas Bar Associations, and Kansas Women Attorneys Association. She has provided expert testimony in the field of immigration law to members of Kansas Senate and House of Representatives. She has written for the Journal of the Kansas Bar Association and ilw.com.

Mira serves on the Board of Directors of The Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City, where she chairs the Community Support Committee. She is past chair of the Pro Bono Service Committee of the Missouri Kansas Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She is a member of the Missouri and Kansas Bars, and KCMBA's Employment and Labor and International Law Committees.

Mira’s law degree was awarded by the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law. In law school, she received the American Jurisprudence Awards for the highest academic achievements in Philosophy and the Law and Gender Jurisprudence. She was the recipient of Mark E. Grady and Frederick W. Hess Memorial Scholarship for academic excellence. Her undergraduate degree was awarded by Moscow State Moris Thores Institute of Foreign Languages, where she studied French, Russian, Latin, and English.
