TranslationPerdect.com Interpreters Training Academy - Legal interpreting seminar is scheduled for January 26, 2007. Seminar will cover advanced techniques for trial and deposition interpreting, procedures and policies, situations from the real life with step by step analysis.
Guest speakers are Leyla Galmarini McMullen, Attorney at Law and Mira Mdivani, Attorney at Law. Before becoming attorneys, both Leyla and Mira majored in foreign languages and worked as professional interpreters for courts and attorneys. Now they deal with clients and situations often involving the need for interpreting in their legal work. They will share their insights from both a professional interpreter and attorney's point of view.

| Mira Mdivani Attorney at law Mira Mdivani practices immigration in Overland Park, Kansas. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
In 2005, Mira Mdivani was named BEST OF THE BAR - BUSINESS IMMIGRATION LAW, by the Kansas City Business Journal, for the second year in a row. Her pro-bono work on behalf of immigrant survivors of domestic violence was recognized by The Kansas Bar Association's PRO BONO Certificate of Appreciation Award. Mira frequently writes and presents on immigration law. She has presented on business immigration law issues by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association for Annual Corporate Counsel Institute, Missouri Bar Association, Kansas Bar Associations, and Kansas Women Attorneys Association. She has provided expert testimony in the field of immigration law to members of Kansas Senate and House of Representatives. She has written for the Journal of the Kansas Bar Association and ilw.com.
Mira serves on the Board of Directors of The Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City, where she chairs the Community Support Committee. She is past chair of the Pro Bono Service Committee of the Missouri Kansas Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She is a member of the Missouri and Kansas Bars, and KCMBA's Employment and Labor and International Law Committees.
Mira’s law degree was awarded by the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law. In law school, she received the American Jurisprudence Awards for the highest academic achievements in Philosophy and the Law and Gender Jurisprudence. She was the recipient of Mark E. Grady and Frederick W. Hess Memorial Scholarship for academic excellence. Her undergraduate degree was awarded by Moscow State Moris Thores Institute of Foreign Languages, where she studied French, Russian, Latin, and English. |

| Leyla Galmarini McMullen Attorney at law Ms. McMullen practices immigration law in Overland Park, Kansas. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Hispanic Bar Association of Greater Kansas City.
Ms. McMullen graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law where she researched legal issues for Professor Robert Casad. She assisted Professor Casad with a comparative study of the res judicata law in the United States and Spain and in updating publications on Jurisdiction. Ms. McMullen's outstanding academic achievements in law school were rewarded by the Arthur Cromb scholarships. She also received the C.A.L.I. Excellence for the Future Award for being first in her class in Labor Law.
Before law school, Ms. McMullen's worked as an English-Spanish interpreter for immigration, federal and circuit courts. Her undergraduate degree with a major in Spanish Education was awarded by the Mid-America Nazarene University, where she received numerous scholarships for academic excellence and was consistently named to the Dean's List. At Mid-America, she was a member of the International Club and the Spanish Club. Ms. McMullen tutored students in the Spanish Lab and taught Spanish to the University's Dean and the Assistant Dean.
